DESIGN
Don’t feel bound by any of these categories! We want to provide the sauna that works for you and your space!
While architectural design can be very important in making a space pleasant to look at as well as fitting into your space, we believe that every project has to start with function. We don’t want to provide a sauna which just looks great as an ornament to your space. Rather, the sauna needs to be fully functional and give the bather the true, traditional sauna experience – so they too can enjoy both the health benefits, but also the wonderful feeling which comes from only the authentic sauna.
RUSTIC
The rustic sauna is meant to give an old-world feel. It’s right at home at a lodge in the northern woods or by the lakeshore. The wood is often less refined and the finishes are very functional.
While we can work with you to achieve this look and feel, we don’t want to do “shoddy” work or use inappropriate sauna materials. For example, we can provide a rough-sawn pine board exterior, and maybe use some knotty wood on the sauna interior, but we want to be sure that you are not sitting on a knotty bench, and moisture / rot considerations are all factored into the design and materials.
CLASSIC
This would characterize most indoor saunas, and some outdoor saunas built in the USA in the last 4 decades. These saunas tend to have used clear western red cedar, and provide a warm and luxurious feel. Lighting is sometimes subdued. Structural elements are clean and patterns are simple.
These saunas are intended to have few catching features so that the entire space is warm, inviting, and relaxed.
MODERN / EUROPEAN
The modern sauna is intended to entice and tantalize the eyes. Colors can contain contrasts of light and dark. Lighting is very intentional to highlight important elements. Glass is used to highlight the architectural significance of certain elements and provide an open, light, and airy feel.
These saunas have a youthful, bright, and energetic feel and contain contrasting elements to fit perfectly with the modern Scandinavian aesthetic.
